Meridian Public Schools Honors School Board Members for Annual Recognition Month
“In another year full of challenges for public education, our school board members persevered through the adversity of 2022 to provide the best possible education for our students,” said Interim Superintendent Sarah Glann. “Celebrating School Board Recognition Month is one of the very small ways to express appreciation for all they do. Too often, the efforts of school board members go unrecognized .”
Meridian Public School's Board of Education is composed of seven members:
Michael Bowen - President, 28 1/2 years of service, Stephen Grubaugh - Vice President, 6 years of service, Rebecca Hitsman - Treasurer, 11 years of service,
Dennis Cole - Secretary, 21 1/2 years of service, Kristina Brawt - Trustee, 3 1/2 years of service, Megan Clark - Trustee, 2 years of service, Janice Goodall - Term ended 12/31/2022 after 9 yrs of service, and Jennifer Holzinger - Newly Elected Trustee as of 1/01/2023

This is a reminder that Dave Moore, our Michigan Association of School Boards (MASB) Consultant, is holding a Community Input meeting on WEDNESDAY, JANUARY 4th from 6:00-8:00 p.m. in the Early College High School Rooms 308/309 to gather input on what our parents and community would like to see in the next Superintendent of Meridian Public Schools. Dave will lead the input session similar to the format and questions from the online survey that has been previously shared.

The FCC has created a national broadband map that displays where internet services are—and are not—available across the United States, as reported by Internet Service Providers (ISPs) in the FCC’s ongoing Broadband Data Collection. This map (https://broadbandmap.fcc.gov) will be used to help determine future broadband expansion efforts and billions in grant funding to close the digital divide. Please consider checking the accuracy at your home address, as well as neighbors, family, friends, etc. If you find any inaccuracies, you can submit a location challenge through the website before the January 13, 2023 deadline.

Earlier this week, MECHS students were able to hear from a panel of recent graduates to share insight and advice on what post-secondary life is like. Thanks Dana, Jack, Jenna, Lexi, Lauren, and James for sharing your experiences. We love to hear you share your success stories!

Meridian Early College's National Honor Society brought some Christmas cheer to the residents at Meridian Acres. Each reindeer gift bag was filled with a hot cocoa kit and a new pair of socks. At MECHS, we believe in fulfilling acts of service to our community. #ReachHigher

The District has contracted with the Michigan Association of School Boards (MASB) to facilitate a search for the new superintendent at Meridian Public Schools. The District is gathering input through an on-line anonymous survey that will be conducted from December 19 through January 10. Survey link: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/MPS_Supt

Meridian Early College students and National Honor Society spent many hours volunteering with the Sanford Historical Society decorating the museum grounds for the Christmas season and helping out at the new Santa House! We love our partnership with the historical society. It's a win-win for both parties!
Reminder! Tomorrow is a half day of school. We are running our A.M. schedule, periods 1-4 & 8. Teachers will be working on curriculum development in the afternoon. Enjoy your weekend!
This week, our Freshmen participated in a presentation with local representatives to gain awareness and develop effective communication strategies for individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorder. At MECHS we strive to create a learning environment where all individuals are able to take risks, collaborate, and have ownership over their learning experience. #ReachHigher!
The Student Council Class of 2025 will be holding a can and bottle drive this week to help fundraise for this year's Snow Glow expenses, and next years Prom expenses. Donations can be brought to Mrs. Tuzas's room before and after school, as well as the main entrance of the High School today and tomorrow, between 4:30-6:30pm.

Thank you to all of the students, parents, and staff who helped make this year's NHS sponsored Thanksgiving Food Drive a success! We brought in over 400 items! Special thanks to the following advisories who completed their item lists and earned ICE CREAM that were delivered in advisory TODAY: Mr. Cole/Ms. Huff, Mr. Cicinelli, Ms. Loll, Mr. Kirkpatrick, Ms. Lewandowski, Ms. Jennings, Mrs. Stockford, Mr. Swieton, Mr. McGillis, and Ms. Nosakowski!
Thank you to everyone who donated blood on Monday for the NHS-Sponsored blood drive. Our goal was 17 units and we EXCEEDED that goal and collected 25 units! Our next drive will be on January 20th.
On Wednesday, November 9, MECHS participated in the Canstruction competition at the Midland Mall taking 3rd Place. This national sculpture building project, hosted by the Midland County Emergency Food Pantry Network, included 10 teams of students from across Midland County who sculpted, using canned food, that will be donated to area food banks. This years theme was animals. The sculptures can be viewed at the Midland Mall through Sunday at noon, and the public can vote for the coveted People's Choice Award for $1.00 per vote. #ReachHigher

Good luck to our qualifying runners who will be competing tomorrow in the MHSAA Division 3 Cross Country Finals at the Michigan International Speedway. The boys will run at 10:10 a.m. and the girls will run at 11:30 a.m. Tickets are $11 and purchased through GoFan.
