Congratulations to MERPS Director of Bands, Matthew Shephard, who has been named one of the Music Educator Finalists from the GRAMMY Museum and Recording Academy.
The Music Educator Award recognizes current educators who have made a significant and lasting contribution to the music education field and demonstrate a commitment to the broader cause of maintaining music education in the schools. Shephard is one of ten, top music educators, up for the award. Interim Superintendent Sarah Glann is proud to have an outstanding Music Educator at Meridian. "Matt pours his heart into his work and that is reflected in the outstanding music program we have today at Meridian Public Schools. I cannot think of anyone more deserving of this award than Matt."

ABC12 News stopped out to Meridian to see who Mr. Shephard is, and why he does what he does. Jenna Dornoff, Assistant Director of Bands, says that Shephard "cares about the students, and was not surprised that he was chosen" for this award.
Kent Boxey, Meridian Junior High School Principal, told ABC12 that "Students want to be in his classrooms. This is verification of what we already knew, that he is an excellent educator."
